Important Reminders for Upcoming HVAC Service Visits

The purpose of HVAC service visits can either be for routine maintenance or full-scale repairs. Whatever the reason, it helps to know what to expect when you set up an appointment with a heating and cooling technician. There are a few steps you can take to make sure the experience goes as smoothly and hassle-free as possible.

Here our HVAC specialists at Kemnitz give you a basic primer on how to prepare for a visit from an HVAC technician.

What You Can Do

Before calling to set up an appointment, make note of all the basic troubleshooting steps you’ve taken to address the issue. Explaining this to your service provider can give them an idea of which solutions will work and which won’t, saving both of you a lot of time when it comes to diagnosing and repairing a malfunctioning unit. Additionally, you should also do the following:

  • Learn where all your heating and cooling equipment is located.
  • Check to be sure that your air filters aren’t clogged up; this is actually the root of HVAC-related problems nine times out of 10.
  • Make note of the date the problem began and its duration.
  • Write down all the pertinent details about your HVAC units, such as their model and serial numbers.

Preparing Your Home

Homes with a centralized air conditioning system will have a duct network that spans every room in the house. Because of this, your HVAC technician will have to move around from one room to another during their repair visit. Move all objects that might get in the way of the job and place pets in a safe but separate room so they don’t get in the way of the technician’s progress. Before they arrive and for the entire duration of the visit, make sure there’s an adult present in your home.
